Narrows Tri Club are hosting the Portaferry Sprint Triathlon on Saturday 19th August 2017 at approximately 1140 (depending on high water time).
The triathlon will be a sprint distance with the challenging 900m Strangford Lough swim, 21.5km bike and 5km run.
The transition area for the event will be located on the Shore Road in front of Blaneys shop between Ferry Street and Steel Dickson Avenue.
Competitors will take the ferry boat to Strangford for the start of the swim. The swim will be a floating start with all participants being counted into the water from the marina which is located north of the main ferry terminal in Strangford. The swim finish will be the slipway beside the Portaferry Marina.
Due to the strong tidal flow in Strangford Lough all swimmers still in the water at 25 minutes will be picked up by our support boats and taken to the shore where they will be allowed to continue the race. Any swimmers refusing to get into a boat will be disqualified.
The 21.5km cycle route is a 2 lap circuit around the scenic southern tip of the peninsula.
The 5km run is a flat out and back route with views across Strangford Lough to Castleward and Killyleagh, finishing outside the Portaferry Hotel.
